According to The New York Post, a source said that they met online around a month ago online, through a joke Musk had planned to tweet but discovered Grimes had already made, dealing with the complications of artificial intelligence.

Musk's ex, actress Amber Heard, was also in attendance at the Ball, but any potential awkwardness was avoided as the pair did not appear to bump into each other on the red carpet.
