HDB and URA extend free parking to 20 mins till May 31

With the implementation of the circuit breaker on April 7, Singapore has seen quieter streets and emptier trains as locals stay home to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

As most people are working from home, they've turned to online shopping for their daily needs. As such, delivery services have seen an uptick during this period.

Now, motorists will get an extended grace period when they park at car parks with electronic parking system under the Housing & Development Board (HDB) and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) until May 31.

This means that they will not be charged parking fees for the first 20 minutes there.

In anticipation of the increased volume of deliveries and to assist delivery riders, the grace period has been extended from the original 10 minutes, HDB and URA said.

This will give sufficient time for motorists, especially those providing delivery services, to park their vehicles and deliver their goods.

However, motorists who overstay the grace period will be required to pay parking fees for the full duration, including the first 20 minutes, when they exit the car parks.

Motorists should not linger at locations longer than necessary and they should carry out their work promptly, the authorities stressed.
