Turkish father live-streams suicide after learning of daughter's engagement via phone call

A man from Turkey killed himself after learning that his daughter was about to get married without seeking his approval.

Ayhan Uzun, 54, took to Facebook to live-stream his suicide on the day he was informed of his daughter's engagement.

He claimed that he had only found out via a telephone call.

Uzun is seen speaking to the camera, explaining why he was about to commit suicide in the graphic footage.

He said: "I am livestreaming tonight, and it is my will, I do not want the ones who put me in this position to attend my funeral.

"Nobody asked about me. Nobody treated me like a man. My father-in-law took my place and without having a right he approved my daughter's wedding."

He added that his wife had merely called to tell him about the engagement because she was unable to "make a personal visit" for Uzun.

It is unclear whether Uzun, who hailed from Kayseri, central Turkey, lived on his own or with family. He is believed to have been alone at the time of his death.

During his online rant, Uzun also said: "Nobody said this girl's father is alive. Though I would have waited for my daughter and family to say to me: 'Come father, be with us.'"

According to the Daily Mail, Uzun pulled the trigger on the count of three.

His final words were: "Goodbye, I am leaving, take good care of yourselves."

Throughout the live-stream, friends and relatives had reportedly commented on his video - begging him not to kill himself.

Unfortunately, their words held no weight and Uzun took his own life.

UK media reported that his family had later "rushed home" only to find his lifeless body.
