Acer Predator X45 OLED monitor: Vibrant, colossal and curvy

The new Acer Predator X45 is a curved, 45" OLED monitor that offers top-of-the-line performance in every department.

The breakout feature is no doubt the UWDHD (3440 x 1440) 21:9 cinematic widescreen. It has an 800R curvature, which is quite distinct, and you can really feel its effect when sitting up close. While the monitor might take some getting used to, it does step up the sense of immersion, especially when playing the right video games. 

Games with incredible cinematics come to mind; that or games with a vast, immersive environment. Forza looks like a perfect fit, while FIFA almost made the mini radar useless.

Granted, there's nothing particularly unique about a curved display in this day and age, but there's certainly one thing you can say about the X45: it is a veritable entertainment monster.

The tale of the tape makes for a fantastic read: a refresh rate of 240Hz and 0.01ms response time, 1.5M:1 contrast ratio and 1,000 nits peak brightness, along with 99 per cent DCI-P3 coverage with a Delta E of less than 1 (you're usually more likely to find one <2), meaning that this is perfect for content creation and content consumption alike. Not many gaming monitors have a Delta E this low and peak brightness this high. You certainly can have a good Netflix experience at your desk.

The only 'downside' is that the screen ratio is rather unorthodox and that most video content ends up with black bars along the sides. The trade-off is that movies available in 21:9 simply look amazing.

Aside from a decent selection of ports: two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, one Type-C port with 90W Power Delivery, and two USB 3.2 ports, the X45 has a built-in KVM so you can switch between computers and still use your keyboard and mouse. It also supports AMD FreeSync Premium, so you know it works with NVIDIA G Sync.

The price? How about a cool $2,298 — but you probably already knew this was coming anyway. But if money is no object, it's hard to top a monitor like this for immersion.
