My Gamer Life is an AsiaOne original series where gaming professionals and aspirants in Singapore share the highs, lows, successes, and failures through personal stories on how gaming has defined the course of their lives.
What was once a hobby has now become a legitimate way for Denise Teo to give back to society.
The livestreamer — also known as supercatkei — shared in an interview with AsiaOne for our new series, My Gamer Life, about how she's managed to build an online community of like-minded people and contribute to charity.
"At the end of every year, we do charity streams where we raise money for different charity organisations," Denise, 25, revealed.
"In the last two and a half years, we've raised about $30,000 for charity, which is really great."
Before she started livestreaming on Twitch, Denise used to build startups in Singapore and New York.

However, she was forced to return to Singapore due to the Covid-19 pandemic and found herself with a "huge amount of time" on her hands that she didn't know what to do with.
So, Denise decided to go back to her "first love": gaming.
She added: "I just did it entirely as a hobby and to make friends during that time."
However, as her livestream, Discord server and community grew larger, Denise decided to host a local offline community event for the livestreaming scene in Singapore, allowing people to meet one another.
"It was a night full of fun and I think from that, people started to realise that this community is real. It's not just something that you have on the side — it can become a place where you meet real friends and friends that you might keep for a long time."
