Dead Island 2 puts 8 years of delays behind, goes gold with April 21 release

Delays for games have become a common sight for today's players, but perhaps none come close to the eight years of delays that have plagued Deep Silver, Plaion, and Dambuster Studios' Dead Island 2.

First announced back in 2014, the game will finally arrive in players' hands a week earlier than expected, with a new release date of April 21 revealed as the teams celebrate the game going gold.

This change in launch date is a good move when it comes to time management, as it means that Dead Island 2 no longer clashes with the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

The Dead Island franchise first hit the scene in 2011 with one of the most-viewed video game trailers of all time.

The latest instalment, which was re-revealed with a gory trailer during Gamescom's Opening Night Live event in 2022, takes players on a blood-soaked, pulp voyage to escape Los Angeles, now nicknamed HELL-A, as it descends into zombie-infested chaos with all of the over the top action and dark humour that fans will be expecting.

Our earlier preview of the game showed off a brutal melee sandbox that will cater to all who love blood and gore. With an arsenal of inventive and dangerous weaponry, becoming the ultimate zombie slayer is not just a dream, but an eventuality.

Get ready to face down dozens of distinct zombie types, each with their own mutations, attacks and hundreds of visual LA-themed variants, powered by Dead Island 2's advanced dismemberment system.

Fans can expect to see more gameplay details and trailers in the coming weeks; after all, we can always do with more great zombie games. Dead Island 2 will release on April 21 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
