God of War stans assemble: Raising Kratos, the full-length documentary on 2018’s God of War game, is coming to PlayStation’s YouTube channel this Friday, May 10.
The best part? It’ll go live at 3am ET in the US, which is around 3pm here — a nice, reasonable hour to ponteng (skive) work and learn how one of your favourite game heroes came to life.

Last year, God of War had one of the most unexpected comebacks as far as established AAA game franchises go. Sony decided to risk everything and change the formula for the popular series, which had begun to decline in its last few installments (God of War: Ascension was, in a word, disappointing).
The result was nothing short of spectacular: God of War (2018) rocketed its way to the top of everyone’s list, becoming one of the most critically acclaimed Playstation-exclusive games of recent years. By adding narrative depth and choice RPG elements, Sony took Kratos from pissed-off bro to full-fledged multi-dimensional hero. The latest title marked the eighth game in the series, and arguably the most (pardon the pun) game-changing of the lot.
Fans are pumped about seeing behind-the-scenes footage of the team, including candid outtakes, mo-cap (motion capture) work, and nuggets of wisdom from Cory Barlog, God of War’s creative director and longtime series writer. Exhibit A: “This tree is a metaphor of the franchise of God of War. And at the very beginning of the franchise, we chop that f**cker down, so that we can chop it up, and then carry it around, and then burn it.”
We couldn’t have said it better.
