Minor Misstep card in Magic's All Will Be One is a game-changer for Commander

The stakes have never been higher for the Magic Multiverse as the Phyrexians (a race of biomechanical creatures) have launched their invasion across the various planes.

With Magic: The Gathering's upcoming set, All Will Be One, the battle for the fate of the Multiverse intensifies as heroes infiltrate New Phyrexia (home of the Phyrexian) to try and put an end to it.

Most have fallen to the enemy — not a spoiler since the short stories have been published — and we'll see what becomes of them when the set releases.

However, we do have an exclusive preview of another new card from the set that is bound to change the Commander format.

Behold Minor Misstep.

For veteran Magic players, you might recognise its 'cousin' Mental Misstep from the New Phyrexia set in 2011.

That card saw much use in the Commander format, especially in the competitive levels, and now we're getting — dare we say it — an upgrade.

While using the Minor Misstep card requires one blue mana, instead of being able to pay with two life as with Mental Misstep, it allows players to respond to a wider variety of threats.

Minor Misstep lets players counter target spell with a mana value one or less, which means you have one more response for the zero-mana rocks — think Chrome Mox, Jeweled Lotus, Mox Amber, Mox Opal — typically seen in competitive Commander.

Oh, but you play in casual pods?

Well, say goodbye to an opponent's Sol Ring (pretty much every deck runs one) or annoying removals like Pongify, Swords to Plowshares, Lightning Bolt, Path to Exile or Fatal Push.

Sure, this card may not spike in price where it costs upwards of $20, but at a time when people are starting to look at interesting common and uncommon cards to play with, this will definitely be top of the list.
