My Gamer Life is an AsiaOne original series where gaming professionals and aspirants in Singapore share the highs, lows, successes, and failures through personal stories on how gaming has defined the course of their lives.
Even as he faces the burnout he experienced in the past, Matthew Wong-Stewart still expresses willingness to reignite the passion he had once more.
In an interview with AsiaOne for our video series My Gamer Life, Matthew — also known as Fish from his Wah! Banana days — revealed that when it comes to shoutcasting, he's down but not out.
The 29-year-old shared: "There's always that thing in the back of my mind, which asks, 'What if I try one more time? What if I just give it one more shot? Where do I think I can end up going?'"
Matthew, currently a channel strategist for Riot Games, used to work as a shoutcaster, primarily for League of Legends.
Beginning his casting journey in 2012, Matthew had a rough start but eventually found his footing, going on to lend a voice to many global and regional tournaments.
However, he set an ultimatum for himself — the day he woke up to cast a game that he was no longer excited for would be the day he would begin his retirement from commentary.

In December 2019, he realised he was reaching his limit and began making preparations for his retirement. He found an alternative route through the past connections he made while casting and found a place in Riot Games' employ.
While he loves various aspects of his job now, a day in his life is admittedly "boring" compared to his glory days of shoutcasting, Matthew said.
"So I think I'm looking to see if there are ways for me to go and explore that hobby and passion I used to have for commentary and see if there's a way for me to get back into it.
"But besides the regret of retiring, I don't regret anything else — it got me to where I am today."
