Samsung unveils its first image sensor for cars, signs deal with Telsa

Samsung just announced its first automotive image sensor, the ISOCELL Auto 4AC.

The ISOCELL Auto 4AC offers advanced 120-decibel (dB) high dynamic range (HDR) and LED flicker migitation (LFM) for surround-view monitors (SVM) or rear-view cameras (RVC) in HD resolution (1,280 x 960 pixels).

The South Korean company claims the ISOCELL Auto 4AC offers a safer driving experience with the enhanced field of view with the CornerPixel technology.

The CornerPixel technology is a specialised pixel structure that mitigates LED light over 90Hz, and embeds two photodiodes within a single pixel area for viewing low-light images.

The ISOCELL Auto 4AC is available in 1/3.7-inch optical format with 1.2 million µm pixels and an embedded image signal processor. It is currently in mass production.

In a separate report, Samsung has reportedly signed a $435.6 million deal with Telsa to supply these camera modules. Telsa is said to be launching a new electric vehicle with this camera.
