If you are like me and had plans to clear up your backlog of games on your various consoles, you can probably kiss that plan goodbye because April is just packed with a selection of good games.

Other than the ones we have highlighted below, April will also see the release of Tron: Identity (April 11), Minecraft Legends (April 18) Stray Blade (April 20) and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp (April 21).

Now, onto the games that we want to get our hands on this month.

Meet Your Maker

Release Date: April 4
Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S

Days before the launch of its post-apocalyptic first-person building-and-raiding game, Meet Your Maker, Behaviour Interactive announced its long-term plans for this game by unveiling the roadmap for its first three months of post-launch content.

While the game will launch with a full arsenal of traps, guards, weapons, Custodians and more, the upcoming content will help to keep the game feeling fresh. The first post-launch content is the free Hellscape Deco Pack, which will inject a new aesthetic into the game that combines organic matter and industrial materials for an eerie effect.

Over the next several months, players will receive multiple free mods and augments that will be unlocked using the game’s in-game currency. These mods and augments will provide builders with new ways to affect their traps and guards, giving them even more control over their setups and combos to outsmart Raiders.

Finally, in late June 2023, Behaviour Interactive will release the first major content update, Sector 1: Dreadshore. This will be free and instantly available for all players and introduces a new region, a new Custodian with its Perks, a new weapon with its upgrades, a new trap with its mods and a new guard with its augments.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores

Release Date: April 19
Platform: PlayStation 5

If spending more than 80 hours with Aloy in the Forbidden West wasn’t enough for you, later this month, you will be able to head out for another adventure with the fierce Nora hunter in the Burning Shores.

This new DLC picks up right where Horizon Forbidden West left off, so you will have to complete the main quest (up to and including the final quest) in the base game. After the events of the final quest, Aloy will receive a call over her focus and thus begins her journey in the DLC.

The new region is south of the Tenakh Clan Lands and is actually Horizon’s version of a volcanic Los Angeles which has been wracked by violent tectonic activity. In this new area, you will experience an intriguing new storyline featuring new characters, machines and adventures.

If you have been wondering why this DLC is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, it is due to the immense work Guerrilla Games put into recreating the clouds and the amount of processing power so that gamers can soar through breathtaking and lifelike skies.

Dead Island 2

Release Date: April 21
Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S

It looks like April won’t be a good month for the virtual version of Los Angeles because not only will it get turned into a volcanic wasteland in Horizon Forbidden West’s new DLC, but it will also experience a zombie outbreak in Deep Silver and Dambuster Studio’s long-anticipated zombie slaying saga Dead Island 2.

Set 10 years (which is almost the same time fans have been waiting for this sequel) after the events of the first game, Los Angeles, now nicknamed HELL-A, is now stained with horror and populated by the brain-hungry undead. You play as one of six individuals who have been bitten and infected by the virus but instead of turning into a zombie, you learn to harness the tainted powers running through your veins.

Much like the first game, Dead Island 2 will have a heavy emphasis on melee combat where you will experience the most intense, visceral and gory first-person experience possible. You will also be able to craft ingenious and insane weapons that will help you slice, smash, burn or rip through the zombie horde.

What is even better is that you won’t have to hack and slash all on your own as it is encouraged that you jump into the over-the-top co-op mode with up to three other players to see what havoc you can wreak.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Release Date: April 28
Platform: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is easily one of the best Star Wars games created to date due to its challenging yet fun soulslike combat and intriguing storyline that doesn’t directly involve the Skywalker lineage. If you are a fan of George Lucas’ far far away galaxy, you owe it to yourself to play Fallen Order.

For those who have completed the first game though, the sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor looks like it is set to give us more of that awesome gameplay and story continuation. Picking up five years after the first game, an older and more experienced Cal Kestis is struggling to stay one step ahead of the Galactic Empire and its efforts to exterminate the remaining Jedi and Force wielders.

Now a Jedi Knight, Cal has sharpened his Force abilities and lightsaber techniques to the point where he has new lightsaber stances in his arsenal. From the gameplay trailers, we have seen him dispatch foes with either a single- or double-bladed stance while dual-wielding lightsabers or even using a heavier cross guard lightsaber in a stance reminiscent of Kylo Ren.

Other than the new lightsaber skills, Cal has also unlocked new Force abilities such as Force Stasis which allows him to freeze enemies and blaster bolts. Other than the new combat gameplay, Cal will also travel to new planets with unique biomes and meet new allies and enemies.
