Fans of the K-pop boygroup EXO may already know that the EXO leader, Suho, also known as Kim Junmyeon, spent a long time as a trainee under SM Entertainment before he made his debut in the group. Despite the uncertainty, he didn’t give up.

He told Dispatch: "I've trained at SM for seven years. It was a long period of waiting. Often, when someone who entered later than me debuted, I was jealous. But I had my dream and did not give up. On the contrary, those painful memories became medicine for me as a form of self-reflection. As a result, it was a chance for me to build more external as well as internal talents".

Adulting tip: When you have a dream, stick to it. It can get tough and you might face obstacles along the way, but try to see the positive side of things. Like Suho, we should always try to use the struggles we face to motivate us to keep pushing ourselves forward and try to improve ourselves in as many ways that we possibly can.

SELENA GOMEZ

There may be times in your life where you are going through a rough patch and find yourself unable to pull yourself out of it.

Selena Gomez once took to Instagram to offer some comforting words of advice to a fan who was struggling with thoughts of suicide, "There is someone in the world feeling so much, just like you. There is someone who will always have it better or have it way worse than you. The point of all of that is for you to feel not alone. My point is you are not alone in this world. People every day feel so many emotions they wish they could turn off. But that’s not why we are here. We are here for relationships, for people just like us who feel worthless. Your purpose is to share, help, encourage".

Adulting tip: Sometimes we may feel upset about things and feel very alone in the situation that we are in, but Selena reminds us that there are definitely other people just like us, going through the same pain and hurt as us. We need to remember that we are never alone and remind ourselves of the people we have around us.

ZENDAYA

Zendaya is an advocate about standing up for oneself and for causes she firmly believes.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, she had this very important advice to give: “Never be afraid to have a voice and to know the power of it, I say that often, and it's often easier said than done. It's easy to say, 'Speak up and everything will be fine!' Because it's hard sometimes. But I would say you do have a voice, and it is important, and you should use it”.

Adulting tip: Don’t be scared to speak your mind and stand up for what you believe in. Of course, when we are putting our opinions across, we also need to be tactful about it and keep in mind the situation and circumstance.

BTS has a huge impact on not only their fans, but also the K-pop industry. Their songs, which spread the empowering message of loving oneself, has inspired many of their fans to see themselves in a better light.

BTS' leader, RM, is known for being the genius behind the heart-warming lyrics and messages behind many of BTS' songs. When asked in an interview with Twist about the best advice he has ever received, the BTS leader said: “If you are tied up with not gaining approval from others, you will never move forward.”

Adulting tip: Understand the value of loving oneself fully and caring more of your own opinion rather than giving the people around you who try to pull your down your time of the day. Thank you for your wise words, RM!

TAYLOR SWIFT

When talking about dating, relationship and love, one singer that may come into your mind is Taylor Swift.

In her interview with Esquire, she had this to say about being single: "I think it's healthy for everyone to go a few years without dating, just because you need to get to know who you are, and I've done more thinking and examining and figuring out how to cope with things on my own than I would have if I had been focusing on someone else's emotions and someone else's schedule. It's been really good."

Adulting tip: While we may often see memes and jokes about how sad it is to be single, not being in a relationship might be liberating and relaxing at times. Take the time to appreciate yourself and focus on your thoughts and emotions over anybody else’s. You will realise it feels good to love yourself and have yourself as the top priority.

SUGA FROM BTS

Another member from BTS that often contributes as a lyricist and producer of BTS' empowering songs is Suga.

In 2018, during their new year greeting video, Suga shares this inspiring message with his fans: "Everything will work out, all of your dreams will come true. If you don't have a dream, that's OK too. It's possible not to have a dream. If you're happy, that's all that matters."

Adulting tip: What Suga said probably made millennials and Gen Zs heave a big sigh of relief. At some points of your life, you might find that you don't have a big plan or an extremely ambitious dream, but Suga assures us all that it's OK not to have a dream. Just take things one step at a time; the most important thing is just to be happy.

RIHANNA

If you have just gone through a breakup or are experiencing a heartbreak, the queen, Rihanna, has this to tell you: "Just believe that the heartbreak was a gift in itself. Cry if you have to, but it won’t be forever! You will find love again, and it will be even more beautiful! In the meantime enjoy all that YOU are!".

She wrote this in a direct message to a fan who was asking her for some relationship advice and her words of wisdom really resonated with many.

Adulting tip: We can be sad about our break up and even cry about it. However, we need to know that this sadness won't last forever. One day, we will definitely find someone else who will make us feel just as in love as before. Until then, we should focus on loving ourselves first.

ED SHEERAN

In an interview with CNA, Ed Sheeran gives advice on how to deal with drama, especially in the digital age today, where many things may be taken out of context online.

Speaking from his own experience, he said: ”Everything’s so short in the digital generation, you have a big drama and then it’s gone. So basically just don't dwell on the little things. Life’s so much bigger than that little small moment that’s happening to you on that day. Sometimes things can seem so drastic and you’re like, ‘My life’s over’ – and if you just wait two days it’s blown over and done, and you can just move on.”

Adulting tip: Sometimes, things that happens to us might seem very big and we might be very affected by it. However, when that happens, we need to take a step back and realise that the incident is probably very small in the grand scheme of things. We need to learn how to take things with a pinch of salt and not harp on the small things that upset us on a day-to-day basis.

NAYEON FROM TWICE

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/B9O6dsKBd0w/[/embed]

In a recent interview, the beautiful TWICE member, Nayeon had this to say about her looks: "Actually, there are a lot of people who are prettier than me but I like myself. In the past, the self-deprecating parts always stayed in my heart, but now, perhaps I have accepted them as part of me. Because only I can do that".

Adulting tip: We all have flaws and things about ourselves that we hope to change if we could. Instead of comparing ourselves with other people, we should embrace the person that we are and learn to love ourselves wholly and completely.
