Gong Li secretly marries 70-year-old French composer

Insiders have confirmed Chinese reports that Gong Li has tied the knot with 70-year-old French composer Jean-Michel Jarre.

According to Beijing News, the superstar actress was at the airport to welcome him to Cannes on the night of May 14. The pair held hands and looked happy.

Gong Li is at the Cannes Film Festival to receive the Women in Motion honour, the first Chinese to do so.

Jarre, known for electronic, ambient and new-age music, was specially invited by festival president Pierre Lescure.

The couple were previously spotted on a date at a shopping mall when Gong Li, 53, was filming Saturday Fiction, a Chinese movie set in the 1940s.

She can also be seen in Disney's live-action Mulan next year.

Gong Li divorced from her Singaporean husband Ooi Hoe Seong in 2010 after 13 years of marriage. Jarre, who also divorced in 2010, has been married three times before this, including to Oscar-nominated English actress Charlotte Rampling.
