Mystery shopper: Maggie Cheung spotted buying bras from street stall

She's arguably the greatest actress in Chinese cinema, but like you and me, Maggie Cheung won't say no to a cheap deal.

Despite a lifetime donning big fashion labels on the red carpet, the Hong Kong star proved she's just as comfortable buying clothes and footwear off the ubiquitous street stalls around town.

Maggie was spotted recently doing some quick shopping at a couple of these stalls, albeit under heavy disguise.

Wearing a white long-sleeved top with a black vest, jeans, a black cap and a surgical mask, the 54-year-old first snapped up several pairs of shoes within minutes.

Prices at the shop start from only HK$19 (S$3.30).

She then popped over to the lingerie stall, taking an interest in HK$39 nude-coloured bras.

The shopowner later revealed that Maggie was a regular customer and would purchase up to half a dozen bras at a time.

It's no surprise. She once said that she had a habit of cutting off clothing labels as she did not want to know what brands she was wearing.

And her thrifty ways are certainly not for a lack of means. Despite effectively retiring from our screens after 2004, Maggie is believed to own at least five properties with a combined value of HK$150m.
