Lady Gaga thought Michael Polansky's proposal was a joke.
The 38-year-old pop star is set to tie the knot with businessman, 46, but admitted that when he got down on one knee to pop the question, she was sceptical because it was April Fool's Day and then lamented that she had accidentally revealed it to the world long before she intended to.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, she explained: "He proposed on April 1, and I thought he was joking. Then when we went to the Olympics, we were filmed saying hello to the Prime Minister [Gabriel Attal] and I was caught on camera saying, 'This is my fiance'. I had wanted to keep it a secret!"
The Poker Face singer was recently said to be the "happiest" she has ever been since getting engaged to Michael, whom she has been in a relationship with since 2019.
An insider told Entertainment Tonight: "Gaga and Michael are the happiest they've ever been.
"Michael has always known Gaga was the one. They had an engagement party at her home in Malibu with their loved ones and everyone is thrilled for them."
She shared: "I am so happy to be in love, and I'm so excited to have a family, so that's definitely number one. But also, I really believe in the ability to grow as a person."
In August, a source revealed that Gaga and Michael are "already thinking about wedding plans".

The loved-up couple are weighing the idea of tying the knot in Europe.
The Bad Romance hitmaker - whose real name is Stefani Germanotta - and Michael hope to get married "sooner than later".
A source said: "They are already thinking about wedding plans and talking about possibly having a destination wedding in Europe. They'd love to get married sooner than later and both want to start a family."
