Rainie Yang re-living her youth in her thirties

Rainie Yang re-living her youth in her thirties

Having spent most of her younger years in show business, Rainie Yang seems to be properly living out her youth right now, in her thirties.

After six long years of waiting, fans of the 35-year-old singer who was in town yesterday (Nov 10) as part of her Youth Lies Within tour were rewarded with a night of great music, joy and laughter.

QUEEN OF FANSERVICE

Throughout the concert, Rainie repeatedly thanked her fans for sticking by her all these years and we could really tell how thankful she was by the amount of fan-service that was paid to the audience throughout the night.

At one point, she even went off-stage and walked amongst the audience to greet them while singing her hit song, Ideal Lover.

Proving that marriage has not dulled her trademark wit, the newly minted Mrs Li also showed off her sense of humour by pulling off several unglam poses before telling fans not to post any of them.

Teasing the audience, Rainie declared that she sang two extra songs during her Malaysia concert because the fans screamed so loudly, but said that Singaporean fans might be too "well-mannered and obedient" and not open to screaming loudly, which of course resulted in the audience erupting in cheers and screams.

The newlywed even playfully asked how many fans attended her husband Li Ronghao's concert in Singapore a month prior, and when many fans raised their hands she responded with: "Isn't that too many people? Do we have the same fans?"

RE-LIVING HER YOUTH

Unlike her previous concert in 2013, this concert featured fewer elaborate outfits and sets, which allowed Rainie to focus more on her vocals.

The singer-actress, who will mark her 20th year in showbiz next year, left fans delighting in her trademark syrupy vocals as well as wonderful stage presence throughout the three-hour concert.

She also showed multiple sides to her during her concert.

Songs like Traces of Time in Love and Longing For had fans listening in hushed silence as her melodious voice filled the entire concert hall, while a rock rendition of Magic Door showed off her fierce side, in contrast to its original cutesy-pop vibe.

Her newer songs had die-hard fans singing along enthusiastically while they waved their light sticks and nodded their heads in unison, but it was obvious that many of them came to hear iconic hits of hers, such as Ambiguous and Ideal Lover from her debut album, and tracks from her popular 2010 release, Rainie & Love...?.

And deliver them, she did.

Whenever the familiar songs started playing, they garnered the loudest cheers as fans, hit by nostalgia, were immediately transported back to the 2000s.

In fact, her fans weren't the only ones reliving their youth yesterday. Looking fresh-faced and energetic, Rainie managed to hold the audience’s attention throughout the concert, accompanied only by a live band and two backup singers. She held her own on stage, performing for a full 180 minutes while hardly breaking a sweat.

35? More like 25.

She even went back to her roots and sang 1,001 Wishes, a song she released while she was part of the pop group 4 in Love which kick-started her career in show business at the tender age of 16.

"She sang so many of her older songs and they brought back so many memories of my youth," said one young fan, Lim Jiayi, 22, who has supported Rainie for the past decade.

As she wrapped up her concert with another one of her hit songs, Anonymous Friend, Rainie also promised fans new music from her latest album which she will be releasing by the end of the year.

We’re already anticipating her return to our shores. Performing alongside her husband, perhaps?
