Robbie Williams found watching his own Netflix documentary to be a "deeply unpleasant" experience.

The 49-year-old pop star opens up about his battles with addiction and mental illness in the new four-part series, and Robbie has even admitted to feeling uncomfortable while watching the show.

He told The Project: "It was deeply unpleasant, to be honest with you."

"I think that people don't even like looking at selfies of themselves and hearing their own voice. And if you multiply that by watching you descend into mental illness and agoraphobia and depression and anxiety and you are watching a nervous breakdown, it's not a normal thing to do."

Despite this, Robbie really appreciates the support that he's recently received.

The award-winning star shared: "I didn't know until it happened how much I needed to be seen and how much I needed to be heard."

"And I feel as though I though I've been seen and I've been heard and there is this rock sack of all these things I was carrying around for years and if feels as though there's been this release of whatever that 'ness' is."

"So I'm currently on a high, I feel as though the world is hugging me."

In the documentary, Robbie admitted that he struggled to cope with the pressures of fame.

The singer — who shot to stardom as a teenager in the boyband Take That — shared: "When I joined Take That I was 16 it was insane. I was the centre of the pop culture world.

"I felt like I was giving more and more of myself away to the point where you don't recognise yourself any more. Being in the spotlight you can't trust anybody. I was having a nervous, mental breakdown in front of thousands of people."
