Having a miscarriage is devastating, but imagine having one just days before your wedding.
This difficult part of Barbie Hsu's life could have stayed a painful secret within her family and loved ones if not for a news report on May 10 which revealed the Taiwanese actress-host had a miscarriage just four days before her wedding with Wang Xiaofei in 2011.
While it was reported before that the 46-year-old had a miscarriage in 2018, it was not known that she was pregnant before her wedding.
After the report was published, Barbie confirmed in an official statement on May 10 that the news is true.
In her statement, Barbie said the foetus died in her womb on March 18, 2011, and she had to go through surgery to remove it.
She added: "My heart and body were tormented due to the loss of my child, thus I was unable to receive media interviews four days later at my wedding with Xiaofei in March 2011. I seek forgiveness from the media and friends who had attended my wedding then.

"As Mother's Day approaches, seeing media reports on my past miscarriages brings me deep pain. I believe that women who have gone through a similar experience will revisit the pain every Mother's Day.
"The self-blame, longing, pain and sadness plagues me and makes it hard for me to breathe. As I was afraid that media reports about my miscarriages may trigger trauma among other women, I decided to issue an official statement to offer support and encouragement to them."
She shared that she is currently happy living a simple life, and wished every mother a happy Mother's Day.
"We may be imperfect, but we have tried very hard," Barbie concluded in her statement.
Barbie and Xiaofei, 41, have two children together, daughter Hsi-yueh, nine, and son, Hsi-lin, six.
In May 2018, she revealed in a statement she had surgery a month earlier to terminate her pregnancy after her gynaecologist discovered the foetus did not have a heartbeat.
Barbie and Xiaofei divorced in November 2021 amid claims of infidelity by Xiaofei and political differences.
Barbie married South Korean singer Koo Jun-yup (DJ Koo), 53, in March 2022. The two had dated briefly 14 years ago and their marriage has been described by Taiwanese media as "a love story more thrilling than an idol drama".
