When it comes to the local entertainment scene, we dare say there’s a star that shines brighter than the rest. The one that has bedazzled countless television viewers in Singapore as well as the rest of Asia (and even Hollywood!).

We’re talking about Fann Wong. She’s one of the few local celebs who has made it big outside of our sunny shores. After winning the Her World magazine Cover Girl competition in 1988, the model went on to pursue an acting career.

In 1995, she bagged not one but three trophies at the Star Awards ceremony. It was a great feat for a newbie and a clear indicator of what a megastar she would turn into. Over the years, we’ve seen her rising popularity as she appeared on our TV screens through dramas like The Return of the Condor Heroes, The Legendary Swordsman and Madam White Snake, to name a few.

Aside from her illustrious tv career, Fann is also a singer and movie star. She’d released six music albums and acted alongside Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson in Shanghai Knights, and Jang Hyuk and Jason Scott Lee in Dance of the Dragon.

Fashion-wise, Fann rarely disappoints us. Take a quick look at all her red carpet getups and you’ll know why. From goddess-like gowns to lime green mini shorts, the ageless Ah Jie wears all her outfits with aplomb. What do we love most about her style? Well, it’s her love for experimenting with fashion, trying out classic and glamorous looks, and everything in between.

With her birthday falling on Jan 27, we thought it timely to look at some of her best outfits, and the style lessons she has given us.

Invest in checks

The good thing about checks is that it’s a pattern that never goes out of style. The design worn by Fann above looks posh, polished, and since it’s a jumpsuit, it gives a hint of masculinity to the wearer’s ensemble.

There’s a saying that goes: “Dress for the job you want.” We recommend doing that with a reasonable budget. If you’re climbing up the corporate ladder, consider Fann’s #Girlboss look above.

The failsafe black jumpsuit is a go-with-everything piece that’s perfect for boardroom meetings. Anchor it with a timeless designer bag (based on your budget and liking, of course).

Adding a splash of bold colour to your outfit is a sure-way to turn heads. Fann’s bright yellow cardigan with interesting texture makes her white T-shirt more interesting and, overall makes her look super fresh. How fann-tastic!

Not all of us have the luxury of staring at our wardrobes for more than 10 minutes every morning, deciding what to wear for work. Keep your outfit planning easy, enjoyable and efficient with tonal dressing. Even better: Sort the pieces in your closet according to colour so that you can make decisions really quickly.
