House tour: A colourful tropical-themed HDB home

Wystan and Simin have thought of a brilliant way to shake those post-holiday blues away. How? The couple created a home that's worthy of a vacation!

"My wife wanted a cosy tropical vibe," begins Wystan. "We wanted a home that defines us and will make us look forward to coming home each day." Simin describes the design of their home as "a happy tropical feel with a modern midcentury touch."

To make this dream possible, the couple turned to the designers at Make Room. Huang Jiaqi, the creative mind responsible for the beautiful blend of tropical vibe and modern midcentury feels in this home, explains that when the couple approached them, they wanted their love for botanical wallpaper and bold colours and patterns to be incorporated into the overall look of the home.

After careful planning and lovely execution, the botanical wallpaper in the dining room now proudly takes the role of an eye-catching conversation starter. This beautifully complements the pink wall in the living area.

The designer also shares that the bathroom was adorned with real wooden vanity top and top-mounted Moroccan sink. The kitchen was cool and clean, thanks to its mint green cabinetry and accents.

The love for colours continue extend to the bedroom-the sky blue wall makes for a relaxing sleep sanctuary. Wystan says, "I chose both the colour for the the living room (pink) and master bedroom (blue). My wife wanted a cosy tropical vibe, therefore the textured tiles and furniture with wooden elements were chosen."

With the many stunning details in this home, what do they love most about it? "The burst of colour and the feel of the wood-like tile flooring," Wystan and Simin.

They also give credit to their designer saying, "Their unique style of design was what attracted us. It was great to have an interior designer who cares to listen and not insist on just selling their design. Our ID was also actively finding samples of actual renovations to show us, which helped a lot in visualising the outcome instead of using digital 3D drawing. We are happy as the renovation and styling were completed even before the dateline."
