Man dodges gunfire outside Penang school by reclining seat in truck; cops searching for suspects

One man's quick thinking probably saved his life during a shooting outside a primary school in Penang.
At about 5.30pm on Tuesday (July 1), the man, who was in his 40s, was sitting in his pickup truck waiting to pick his child up from school, said Penang Deputy Police Chief Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin in a statement the next day.
The man's seat was initially reclined halfway. He then saw a motorcycle speeding towards his vehicle and reclined his seat fully just as shots were fired into his truck through the dark-tinted window, reported The Star.
This resulted in the bullets missing him completely, reported the New Straits Times.
According to investigations, there were two gunmen on the motorcycle and they fired five shots at the man in the pickup truck. The victim was found safe and did not suffer any injuries, said Alwi.
Penang police are currently tracking down the two unidentified men and trying to determine the motive behind the attack, reported the New Straits Times.
Alwi told Malaysian media that they the police has not ruled out the possibility that the victim, who has a criminal record with four prior offences, knew the gunmen.
The man, however, denied knowing the attackers.
Alwi also said the police is also considering the possibility of the incident being related to gangsterism as they found that the victim was previously involved in a gang but has since left that lifestyle.
"Penang police have also formed a special task force to carry out a detailed investigation into the case," he said.
He assured members of the public that despite the incident, the area in front of the school remains safe and authorities have increased their security presence there.
