Jeremy Chan, Singapore big winners at Asian Academy Creative Awards 2018

Singapore led the way with number of wins at the inaugural Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA).

Held over two nights on Dec 6 and 7 at the Capitol Theatre, host country Singapore scooped up nine trophies, including Best Comedy Performance for local artiste Jeremy Chan.

The 37-year-old won for web series My Agent Is A Hero.

Other key winners include We Are Singaporeans - Global Edition for Best Game or Quiz Show, Douglas Lan for Best Direction (non-fiction) for his documentary National Service - The Beginning and M. Raihan Halim of SR115 for original screenplay.

Open to countries in the Asia-Pacific region, the AAA considers digital, streaming and emerging technologies as well as television. It is part of the Singapore Media Festival.

One novelty was "judging insights", which gave the public an idea of how votes were split and whether tiebreakers were utilised.

Based on the numbers, Lin Xueling of Singapore narrowly lost to CNN's Kristie Lu Stout for Best News or Current Affairs Presenter or Anchor.

Inside T4: Terminal of Tomorrow was also pipped to Best Branded Programme or Series by China's iQIYI.

Here are the other Singapore winners:

Asia's Next Top Model - Best General Entertainment category

One: Unstoppable Dreams - Best Entertainment Programme (one off/annual)

The Talwars: Behind Closed Doors - Best Documentary Series

Oddbods - The Festive Menace - Best Children's Programme (one off/special)
