Charred body of Singaporean found after car hits tree and catches fire in Johor

The charred body of a Singaporean driver was found in a burnt car at Jalan Pekeliling Industrial Park in Johor on Monday (Oct 23) late morning. 

Seri Alam district police chief Supt Mohd Suhaimi Ishak told China Press that the deceased was a 62-year-old Singaporean-Chinese, and his body was conveyed to Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Bahru.

Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue station operations commander Sarhan Akmal Mohamad said in a statement on Monday night that the station had received an emergency call at 11.13am, reported Bernama.

10 firemen with a Fire Rapid Tender vehicle and a 4WD Utility Vehicle from the station were subsequently deployed to the scene, where firefighters found a Nissan Almera on fire.

"A car driven by the victim is believed to have skidded and hit a tree before it burst into flames,'' he said, according to The Star.

Sarhan Akmal added that the firemen had to use rescue tools to remove the remains of the victim's body that was trapped in the burning car.

They were reportedly having problems identifying the victim's gender as identification documents belonging to the deceased were also burnt in the incident.

His body was handed over to the police for further action and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
