    Last Friday (Feb 7), local TV personality Chef Bob took to Instagram to share his views on where to get the best nasi lemak.

    The best nasi lemak I've ever tasted is here in Wanjo," Chef Bob admitted.

    The celebrity chef had high praise for Nasi Lemak Wanjo Kampung Baru, an eatery located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

    Nasi Lemak Wanjo Kampung Baru first opened in 1963 and has earned a cult following over the decades, according to Chef Bob.

    He was radicalised by violent far-right extremist ideologies and aspired to carry out attacks against Malays and Muslims in Singapore.

    The teen also identified as an "East Asian supremacist" who believed in the superiority of Chinese, Korean and Japanese ethnicities.

    Lee had aspired to carry out attacks in Singapore, which included using homemade guns and knives against Muslims at a mosque.

    According to ISD, Lee is the third Singaporean who was dealt with under ISA following radicalisation by far-right extremist ideologies.

    Chinese marriages slid by a fifth in 2024, further fanning birthrate concerns

    More than 6.1 million couples registered for marriage last year, down from 7.68 million a year earlier, figures from the Ministry of Civil Affairs showed.

    But for Chinese authorities, boosting interest in marriage and baby-making is a pressing concern.

    And in the coming decade, roughly 300 million Chinese — the equivalent of almost the entire US population — are expected to enter retirement.

    The data also showed that more than 2.6 million couples filed for divorce last year, up 1.1 per cent from 2023.

    The mezzanine floor of a Toa Payoh warehouse that collapsed last month was built without the approval of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) or the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

    The incident, which occurred on Jan 28 at 11 Toa Payoh Industrial Park, resulted in three people being trapped under rugs and storage racks.

    Under the Fire Safety Act, those who wish to carry out any addition or alteration works at their premises must first seek SCDF's approval for the fire safety works involved.

    Asked whether he had had his conversation with Putin since he became president on Jan 20 or before, Trump said: “I’ve had it.

    Putin last spoke to former US President Joe Biden in February 2022, shortly before Putin ordered thousands of troops into Ukraine.

    Reuters, The Washington Post and Axios reported separately that Trump and Putin talked in early November.

    On Friday, Trump said he would probably meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy the following week to discuss ending the war.

    Nicaragua blasts Vatican after exiled bishop's TV appearance

    Nicaragua's government described the Vatican as "depraved" and "paedophile" on Sunday (Feb 9), two days after an interview on Catholic television channel EWTN with exiled Nicaraguan Bishop Rolando Alvarez, one of the fiercest critics of President Daniel Ortega.

    Alvarez's television appearance on Feb 7 was his first interview since being released in January 2024 from more than a year in detention.

    He expressed gratitude for his physical and mental recovery and hope for the Nicaraguan people, saying, "In the diaspora, faith always grows, and hope gets stronger.".

    In recent months, Pope Francis has asked Catholics to pray for Nicaragua, calling in December for "a path of respectful and constructive dialogue."

    DBS to give staff $1,000 special bonus, introduce capital return dividend

    DBS Group said on Monday (Feb 10) that it will reward staff a special one-time bonus of $1,000, following the bank's record performance in 2024.

    In the subsequent two years, the bank expects to pay out a similar amount of capital either through the capital return dividend or other mechanisms.

    In February 2024, DBS rewarded junior staff with a one-time bonus of $1,000 to help them cope with the higher cost of living.

    DBS Group will be up for a major leadership change following the retirement of CEO Piyush Gupta at the end of March.

    "Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform X.

    The 58-year-old actor went on to express his disgust that there hadn't been "sufficient outrage" over Kanye's comments and warned staying silent made people "complicit" in the his actions.

    Kanye — who was previously banned from X from December 2022 until summer 2023 for similar disturbing messages — sparked outrage with his X posts a few days ago.

    Local getai singer Angie Lau died yesterday (Feb 9) at the age of 58.

    Angie, who divorced her ex-husband in 2019, leaves behind their two children - a son and daughter aged 18 and 16 respectively.

    "I've been busy taking care of Angie, my mother, and Angie's two children these past few weeks… I really don't know what to say.

    Angie, who expanded her music abroad to Taiwan in the 80s, was also recognisable under the name of Jiang Yinjie.
