US$100 for a day out in Hong Kong? This traveller reveals best budget sights to check out

Keeping track of your finances is all part of being on vacation.

Even more so when you find yourself in a city that is notoriously for being expensive like Hong Kong.

On Wednesday (March 22), US-based content creator Uptin Saiidi shared an 89-second clip on TikTok of what you can discover with US$100 (S$132) in Hong Kong.

Surprisingly, he managed to get through quite an event-filled day with meals, drinks and tourist hotspots.

To start the day, Uptin had the famous Hong Kong milk tea and french toast at a local food centre. All that for $6.

After hiking up a peak, he gave himself a treat with some lovely-looking dumplings ($9).

Almost half of his money went to see the Big Buddha. 

This bronze statue of Buddha was completed back in 1993 and is located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island.

Uptin bought a two-way cable car ticket to reach his destination which set him back $37.

A visit to M+, a visual culture museum, later in the day would cost him $15.

In between all that spending, Uptin managed to squeeze in some free activities such as hiking up Victoria Peak for a view of the city and visiting Tai Kwun, a heritage-arts venue that used to be a police station.

In the comments section, netizens shared if Uptin's $100 spending was worth it.

One TikTok user thanked Uptin for his Hong Kong vlogs as they were "very helpful" as research for their upcoming trip.

Another netizen shared: "Thanks for the breakdown, won free tickets so this will really be helpful!"

Efforts to boost tourism

Just last month, Cathay Pacific gave away 12,500 round-trip tickets for tourists from Singapore to Hong Kong.

This giveaway is part of Hong Kong's promotion campaign to woo back visitors, businesses and investors after three years of tough Covid-19 restrictions.

All 12,500 tickets were snapped up within 40 minutes of the launch

Apart from that, the Hong Kong Tourism Board said that one million consumption vouchers will be given out to visitors for use at over 16,000 outlets across the city.
