Hotels in Singapore to stay in (at discounted rates) if you are issued a stay-home notice

By now you should be familiar with a couple of coronavirus-related lingo, such as social distancing, quarantine order and stay-home notice (SHN).

From March 27, travellers arriving in Singapore will not only need to submit a health declaration to enter the country, you'll also need to comply with a 14-day SHN.

Unlike the previously implemented SHN, Singaporeans returning from the US and UK arriving from March 25 onwards will have to stay at participating government-arranged hotels during the SHN period.

For those returning from countries other than the US and UK, you'll have to declare where you'll be staying — it could be at home with your family members while practising good hygiene and complying with regular health checks, or at participating hotels too.

To help you with your search, the Singapore Global Network division under the Economic Development Board has compiled a list of hotels and their preferential rates per night for those issue stay-home notices, and what would be included in the package.

The list includes boutique hotels, budget accommodations, as well as four and five-star hotels. The room rates seen in the table are subsidised, for example, a night's stay in Naumi Hotel will normally set you back at least $208 per night for the Habitat room, while the SHN subsidised rate is priced at $130 per night.

Some hotels offer meal packages and complimentary services, and you can find the full list here.

If you think you're going on a staycay, it's anything but. Redditor ThePunnet shared his experience carrying out his SHN in one of the hotels, noting that the hotel he stayed in did not include housekeeping so as to reduce interactions with others.

The only time he could step out of his room and head down to the lobby was when officers show up for random checks.

As more Singaporeans are returning home, let's do our part in being socially responsible to keep the virus from spreading, especially if you're given an SHN.

Those who do not comply with the SHN may be fined up to $10,000 or jailed up to six months, or both.
