Oppo launches the portrait-driven Reno10 series of phones

Oppo goes hard on portraiture with the new Reno10 series, which comprises the Reno10 Pro+ 5G, Reno10 Pro 5G, and Reno10 5G.

Aside from the promise of a pro-level portrait imaging experience, the Reno10 Pro+ 5G is the slimmest smartphone on the market with a periscope telephoto camera: It measures only 8.28mm in thickness while weighing a mere 194g.

The Reno10 Pro 5G and Reno10 5G models are even thinner and lighter, weighing 185g and measuring 7.89mm and 7.99mm respectively. 

Oppo has opted for curves for the Reno10 series, and the phones boast a finely crafted 3D curved body for a comfortable grip and feature a 120Hz 3D Curved Screen with ultra-narrow bezels.

The stylish colour finishes: Silvery Gray, Glossy Purple, and Ice Blue - complement the lines perfectly.

All-in on portrait photography

The Reno10 + Pro and Reno10 Pro may have the impressive 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor, but the star of the Reno10 series is undoubtedly the former, as it's equipped with a 71mm, 64MP telephoto portrait camera to capture "professional-looking" portrait images effortlessly.

It certainly has the hardware for it: A large f/2.5 aperture, 25cm minimum focus distance and a 1/2" camera sensor.

With the use of the high megapixel count, three times optical zoom and in-sensor crop, the phone can achieve up to six times zoom with a natural optical quality look.

On top of that, it has a prime floating Optical image stabilisation (OIS) for image stabilisation.

In place of the 64MP telephoto, the Reno10 Pro and Reno 10 get a 32MP telephoto portrait camera instead, powered by an IMX709 RGBW sensor first seen in the Reno7.

The sensor incorporates a four-in-one Red, Green, Blue + White (RGBW) pixel array co-developed by Oppo and Sony, and enhances light capture by 60 per cent and signal-to-noise by 35 per cent.

All three phones will get a 112 degree 8MP Ultra-Wide-Angle Camera with a Sony IMX355 sensor.

An interesting aside is the introduction of the Portrait Expert Project; through collaboration with professional portrait photographers around the world, Oppo will continuously optimise its Portrait Expert Engine based on feedback from experts. Whether or not this will lead to better bokeh effects remains to be seen - let's check back in a year.

SoC differentiation

One area where the phones differ significantly is in the System on Chip (SoC).

The Pro+ gets the processing power of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC as well as the Marisilicon X Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which Oppo says helps the sensors deliver "remarkable improvements" in image clarity, light, shadow, and colour, thanks to RAW Domain Multi-frame Synthesis and advanced image processing algorithms.

On the other hand, the Reno10 Pro sports the Snapdragon 778G, which is the non-customised version of the processor seen in last year's Nothing Phone (1), while the Reno10 uses the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC; both mid-range processors with better power efficiency.

Rich display

To complement that capable camera, the Reno10 series features a large display that supports up to one billion colours and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Reno10 and Reno10 Pro have a 6.7" Amoled display with 950 nits peak brightness, while the Reno10 Pro+ 5G takes it a step further with its larger, 6.74", 1.5K Ultra-Clear Borderless Display, capable of reaching 1100 nits brightness and offering an eight-times improvement in dynamic range through ProXDR Smart Display Control.

This technology adjusts screen brightness based on light source information stored in RAW image data, resulting in High Dynamic Range (HDR) images with accurate light and shadow.

Other perks

The Reno10 series also introduces new functionalities like the infrared remote control for smart devices like air conditioners and TVs.

The new phones also have a Dynamic Computing Engine that dynamically adjusts memory access efficiency to enhance data transmission and smooth operation of heavy-load applications, allowing up to 44 apps to run simultaneously without compromising performance. 

The Reno10 Pro+ 5G and Reno10 Pro 5G also received an A Rating in the TÜV SÜD 48-months Fluency Certification, which interestingly, is a benchmark for "a long-lasting smooth user experience."

All three models vary when it comes to charging capabilities.

The Reno10+ Pro gets the pick of the litter with its 100W Supervooc flash charging, while the Reno10 Pro and Reno10 get 80W and 67W flash charging respectively.

The 4,700mAh battery in the Reno10+ Pro can be charged to 50 per cent in less than 10 minutes and 100 per cent in 27 minutes, and complies new TÜV Rheinland Safe Fast-Charge System Certification.

Availability

The Reno10 Pro+ 5G and Reno10 Pro 5G will be available on July 15 at SGD1,149 and SGD849 respectively.

Only one configuration will be offered - 12GB+256GB - but you will have a choice between Silvery Gray and Glossy Purple. The Reno10 5G will only be available next month on Aug 5 for SGD649 (8GB+256GB) with a choice of either Silvery Gray or Ice Blue.

To celebrate the reopening of Oppo's refurbished flagship store at Suntec City, Oppo is offering exclusive deals for the first 100 sets of selected products sold on July 15 from 12pm to 2pm, including the Oppo Enco Buds W12 (SGD9.90 from SGD79), Oppo Pad Air (SGD299 from SGD403), A78 5G (SGD249 from SGD369), and Oppo Reno8 Pro (SGD699 from SGD1,109) - limited to one per customer, of course.

For Malaysia, the Oppo Reno10 Pro+ is priced at MYR3,499, the Reno10 Pro+ at MYR2,199 and the Reno10 at MYR1,799.
