Birthdays are a time to celebrate, but not for this local actor.

Shane Pow turned 33 on Oct 4 and mentioned in an Instagram post how he's now "one step closer" to achieving his dreams.

In a recent interview, he elaborated to AsiaOne: "I don't want to jinx it but generally, it's about my career. Every day is a step closer… As I get older as an actor, I can have more opportunities to try different roles. Like previously, I couldn't be a dad, but now I can definitely do that.

"Every day I'm a step closer to trying something I've never done before."

He added he hopes he'll get the opportunity to work overseas and try being in "bigger productions and different markets".

He added: "The international market is opening up to a lot more Asians especially after this year's Oscars. There are more chances for us as actors to excel internationally."

He then explained how he thinks Singapore is a "relatively stressful" place to live in if you don't have the means, and he's thinking of ways to take care of himself and his loved ones.

Shane didn't hold any birthday parties for himself, and neither did his friends. "They're like, 'Do you want to have dinner?' and I just told them I'm not free. But actually I was just at home, I didn't go out. I just had a nice little dinner at home alone."

"I didn't have a celebration… I feel that now is not the time to celebrate yet. When I've achieved something that I want to do, then I'll celebrate. That's my mindset."
